The acapella® Choice Vibratory PEP Therapy System is a Positive Expiratory Pressure therapy device used to help patients with chronic respiratory diseases live more independent lives by allowing them to move mucus from the lungs and airways walls while anywhere. What is the Difference between the Different acapella® Devices?
The acapella® Choice Vibratory PEP Therapy System is in green, and is similar to the acapella® Green, in that they both are used for flow rates of > 15L/min. The main difference is that the Choice can be taken apart for easier cleaning. In blue is the Smith’s Medical acapella® DH Vibratory PEP Therapy System with Mouth Piece, which produces a lower amplitude of vibration compared to the green PEP devices. Acapella® in blue is generally used for individuals with a flow rate of < 15L/min. Lastly, there is the acapella® Duet, which is like the acapella® Choice Vibratory PEP Therapy System but has a dedicated nebulizer port built in as well.
How Effective Is It?
Clinical evidence of the acapella®’s effectiveness has shown that over a three-month trial, patients with non-CF bronchiectasis, experienced improved sputum volume, reduced coughing, and lower health-related quality of life issues than without the use of the treatment.
